Crime Prevention

Personal Safety:

  • Walk with confidence at a steady pace. Never seem lost or confused about your surroundings.
  • If someone grabs your purse or backpack, LET THEM. No object is worth you life. Report the crime immediately to TUPD.
  • Call TUPD to request a personal escort, or dowmnload the virtual escore Everbridge from the Google Play or App Store.
  • Learn the location of the Uptown campus emergency blue-light phones.
  • TUPD will provide a safety check for your residence hall, home or apartment. Call 504-865-5381 to set up an appointment.

Safety in Student Rooms, Houses, Apartments and Open Areas:

  • Always lock your door(s) when you are home and away.
  • Conceal any large sums of money, valuable jewelry or expensive equipment.
  • Do not prop open or tamper with exterior doors, keep them shut and locked.
  • It is a violation of Campus Housing policy to lend your room key to others.
  • Do not leave you belongings (backpack, purse, computer bag, phones, etc.) unattended in communal spaces like study areas, the library or open spaces.
  • Pay attention to you surroundings and don't get distracted by electronics.
  • Report suspicious looking people, including door-to-door salespeople to TUPD.
